  • Vodka: For a truly authentic and rich fall flavor, we recommend using a combination of both pumpkin and vanilla flavored vodkas. The pumpkin vodka provides a warm, spiced base, while the vanilla vodka adds a smooth, sweet undertone that enhances the overall dessert-like quality of the martini. If pumpkin vodka is hard to find, a good quality plain vodka can be used, perhaps with a dash of pumpkin puree or a homemade pumpkin spice syrup. Similarly, for vanilla, a vanilla bean infused vodka or even a drop of pure vanilla extract in plain vodka can work in a pinch.
  • RumChata: This creamy, cinnamon-flavored rum liqueur is a star ingredient, contributing a velvety texture and a delightful spice profile reminiscent of horchata. Its unique flavor perfectly complements the pumpkin and vanilla. If RumChata is unavailable, Baileys Irish Cream makes an excellent substitute, offering a similar creamy richness and a hint of vanilla that will still deliver a fantastic cocktail.
  • Maple Butter: Our secret weapon for an irresistible rim! We love using Trader Joe’s maple butter for its rich, spreadable texture and intense maple flavor. This creates a sweet, sticky base for the spice rim that adheres beautifully and adds another layer of fall sweetness to the drink. While optional, it’s highly recommended for that extra gourmet touch. If maple butter isn’t accessible, pure maple syrup or even a little honey can be used to wet the rim, ensuring the spice sticks.
  • Pumpkin Pie Spice: Essential for both the flavor and aroma of the rim, and as an optional sprinkle on top. This iconic blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves instantly evokes the spirit of autumn. Don’t skip this for the rim; it elevates the drinking experience significantly. You can find pre-mixed pumpkin pie spice in most grocery stores, especially during the fall season.
  • Ice: Crucial for chilling and diluting the cocktail to perfection. Use fresh, clean ice for the best results.

Crafting Your Pumpkin Spice Martini: Step-by-Step Guide

Creating this delightful Pumpkin Spice Martini is simpler than you might think, and the payoff is a truly impressive and delicious fall beverage. Follow these detailed steps to ensure a perfect cocktail every time:

  1. Prepare Your Martini Glass for Maximum Frostiness: For an optimal dessert-like experience, we highly recommend chilling your martini glass in the freezer for at least 15 minutes before you begin mixing. A frosty glass ensures your martini stays colder for longer, enhancing its refreshing qualities and overall enjoyment. While not strictly mandatory, this step significantly elevates the “dessert factor” of the drink.
  2. Create the Maple-Spiced Rim: Take two shallow dishes, each wide enough to comfortably accommodate the rim of your martini glass. In the first dish, spread a generous, even layer of maple butter. In the second dish, spread about a tablespoon of pumpkin pie spice. Gently dip the rim of your chilled martini glass into the maple butter, rotating it to ensure an even, thin coating all around.
  3. Apply the Pumpkin Spice: Immediately after dipping in maple butter, carefully transfer the glass and dip its maple-coated rim into the dish of pumpkin pie spice. Rotate and press gently to ensure the spice adheres well, creating a beautiful and aromatic rim. You won’t use all the pumpkin spice, but the remaining amount can be used if you’re preparing multiple martinis.
  4. Combine Ingredients in a Cocktail Shaker: Into a robust cocktail shaker, add 1 ounce of vanilla vodka, 1 ounce of pumpkin vodka, and 2 ounces of Rumchata. Fill the shaker about two-thirds full with fresh ice cubes. The ice is vital for both chilling and providing the right amount of dilution to the cocktail.
  5. Shake Vigorously for Perfection: Secure the lid on your cocktail shaker and shake vigorously for approximately 20 seconds. This energetic shaking not only thoroughly chills the ingredients but also aerates the mixture, giving the martini a slightly frothy texture that enhances its richness.
  6. Strain and Serve Immediately: Once thoroughly chilled, use a cocktail strainer to pour the pumpkin spice martini directly into your prepared, maple-spice rimmed martini glass. Ensure no ice chips or solids from the shaker make it into the finished drink. Serve this exquisite cocktail immediately to enjoy its perfect temperature and vibrant flavors.

The Pumpkin Spice Martini just screams Fall! Served in a maple butter and pumpkin spice rimmed martini glass, and filled with the flavors of vanilla vodka, pumpkin vodka, and Rumchata, this is perfect to sip before dinner, or as dessert.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces Rumchata
  • 1 ounce Pumpkin vodka
  • 1 ounce Vanilla vodka
  • 1 tablespoon Pumpkin pie spice for the rim
  • 1 tablespoon Maple butter for the rim
  • 1 cup ice for your shaker

Instructions

  1. To a plate large enough to fit the rim of your martini glass, spread the maple butter, and dip the rim of your glass ensuring there is a thin layer of maple butter.
  2. To a plate large enough to fit the rim of your martini glass, add the pumpkin pie spice and dip/roll the maple buttered portion of the glass ensuring that the spice sticks to the maple butter.
  3. To a cocktail shaker, add ice, vanilla and pumpkin vodkas, and the rumchata.
  4. Shake for about 20 seconds, before straining and pouring into your maple and pumpkin spice rimmed glass.
  5. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • If you have time, chill your glass in the freezer ahead of time for 10-15 minutes. This will help ensure a frosty cocktail.
  • We used Crop Pumpkin vodka for this recipe. If you are unable to locate Pumpkin vodka, you can certainly substitute for plain or caramel vodka.
  • If you cannot locate maple butter, you can use maple syrup or just the vodka to create a wet enough rim for the spice to stick to. Alternatively, you can skip the rim and just add a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice to the top of the cocktail once mixed/poured.
